SAT Math Score-Band Guides

Where you score now determines what you should study next. These three guides break down the exact topics, strategies, and practice mix that move students from one band to the next on SAT Math (with the equivalent ACT scaled scores noted in each).

Most score-improvement advice ignores the fact that the topics that get you from 500 to 600 are completely different from the topics that get you from 700 to 780. A 500-scorer needs to lock down algebra fluency; a 700-scorer needs to learn to handle the two or three trick questions that separate good from elite. Studying the wrong content for your band wastes time.

Pick the band closest to your most recent practice-test math score. If you don't have one yet, sit one of the past papers first and come back.

How the score bands map between tests

The College Board and ACT, Inc. publish concordance tables that translate scores between the two tests. The math-section equivalents below are approximate and should be used directionally, not as exact targets:

SAT Math (200-800)ACT Math (1-36)Approx percentile
40014-15~12%
50018-19~37%
60022-23~70%

70027-28~92%
